Christopher Baer is a contemporary artist and painter who was educated at the Rhode Island School of Design and works in his hometown of Washington DC. Best known for his large format oil and mixed media paintings, Baer investigates the qualities of transparency and opacity. He writes, “I like the abstraction and symbolism of familiar objects. I recognize that ideas have a life of their own. The repackaging and abstraction of familiar things challenges our views of history, identity and aspirations.” Recently he has developed several series of abstract paintings: Palisades; White on White; and Line Theory. In addition, he experiments with familiar subject matter in digital art and monotypes.
